چکیده

Analysis of the sera from both R.A. and the control group on a Technicon SMA 12/60 revealed no abnormality of liver or kidney function which might have suggested difference in immunoglobulin metabolism. The Gm phenotype distributions were also similar, indicating that the Gm groupings were not associated with the coniigurational differences observed. Several workers have commented on the stability of immunoglobulin levels in a given individual. There is also evidence that the subclass proportions themselves are equally stable and this may imply a difference in the capacity of each individual to respond to a particular antigen. This preliminary study indicates that differences in molecular configuration may also occur. The presence of molecular species in the yG-globulins of rheumatoid patients, differing configurationally from ‘normal’ yG-globulins may be clinically highly significant since their presence may be highly favourable to the initiation of autoimmune phenomena.

Studies on the nature and significance of connective tissue antibodies in adult coeliac disease and Crohn's disease.

Sera from 92 patients with adult coeliac disease, 20 patients with Crohn's disease, and 89 control patients were tested for the presence and immunoglobulin class of anticonnective tissue antibodies. In adult coeliac disease patients taking a normal diet there was a high frequency of sera positive for connective tissue antibodies and the majority were IgA in class. Following gluten withdrawal, I...

Intestinal immunoglobulins in children with coeliac disease.

The numbers of immunoglobulin-containing cells in jejunal biopsy specimens of 19 children with active coeliac disease aged 0.5 to 16.5 years were studied by direct immunofluorescence. Intestinal juice immunoglobulins were measured in 14 of these patients. The number of IgA-containing cells was twice and the number of IgM-containing cells 2.5 times that of age-matched controls. There were also m...

Circulating antibodies to cow's milk proteins in ulcerative colitis.

Sera from patients with ulcerative colitis (51), Crohn's disease (30), hypolactasia (13), untreated adult coeliac disease (11), irritable colon syndrome (24), and sera from 38 healthy control subjects were tested for antibodies to the principal cow's milk proteins-casein, alpha-lactalbumin, and beta-lactoglobulin. The red-cell-linked antigen-antiglobulin reaction was used to determine the titre...
